Gardner Martin actually made a modest contribution to my life by publishing
his plans for the Tour Easy. I had never really made anything in my life
from plans before, but I could follow his instructions and I ended up with a
very nice recumbent which I still ride to this day. I believe I only paid
$30. for the plans and I could never understand why he was basically just
giving them away. He claimed he wanted folks to get into recumbents and
that he was not all that concerned about selling his own Tour Easy's. This
made a powerful impression on me and I have always had the highest regard
for him ever since.

Many thanks for the plans Gardner. You will be remember by the recumbent
community for as long as there are recumbents in the world.

I found this quote from Gardner about the EZ-Sport.

In Gardner¹s own words, "The idea of the Easy Sport has been incubating
for a number of years. A recumbent with real style combined with real
user friendliness kept running through my mind and onto the drawing
board. The EZ Sport is really in a class by itself. It¹s a do anything,
go anywhere bike, and do it in style and comfort."

I'm feeling good about my new bike. Its getting picked up on Thursday
and is going for a good long "get to know ya" ride.

Gardner Martin deserves a lot of the credit for the modern (post 1980)
North American recumbent market revival.

I expect his designs and many of his bikes will live on for a long time
- a fitting legacy.
