Just got the local rag today (Heidelberg Leader - Feb 15) and I was flicking
through it when I saw a picture of a guy on page 13 that I know (Cr Tom
Melican who was on the committe at the club I played footy with a couple of
years ago). Tommy is on the local council and commutes to work every day by
bike. He is very pro bike and was the driving force behind the recent bike
path that parallels Rosanna Rd (Rivergum Walk I think it is called?).
Anyway, the article is calling for guard rails on the intersection of Lower
Plenty and Rosanna Roads. I read the article and then looked at the picture
again and noticed that there is a guy on a bike in the background and it is
me!!! I had no idea that Tommy or the camera man were there that day as I
was too busy trying to beat all the cars off of the lights.
It would have been taken earlier this week as I was riding home from work
and I am in the middle lane because I tried using the left lane a few times
and would always get stuck in the lane that turns left onto Greensborough Rd
at the bottom of the hill (I go straight ahead up Lower Plenty Rd). I have
found that if I go around the corner pretty hard, I can get up to 60km/h on
the down hill and so I just claim the whole of the centre lane.
