I've installed a few computers on different
bikes over the years but for complexity and
fiddly bits, the ergo wins. The stuff I'd
read on the web said allow 2 hours - I reckon
I took 3 distributed over several evenings.
It comes in two boxes (one for mount kit, one
for the head unit). The mounting kit has several
containers of little, easily lost bits. I suggest
you sweep your shed floor *before* opening any
of these packets.
The head unit has 4 wires coming out of it,
one for the speed, one for cadence and one
each for the controls that are integrated into
the Ergolevers - the coolest thing about the
ergobrain.
Lots of wires - the mounting kit included 9 cable
ties. I ended up using 17 - the bike looked like a
"Bike that ate Paris" before I snipped off the ends.
Fortunately, the deal I got included bar-tape which
I need after damaging the original tape.
Likes: Controls in levers, head unit out in
front, cadence, uses autostart and manual start
simultaneously, shows current gear.
Dislikes: Wires, wires and more wires. The front
of my bike looks like a rat's nest - greatly upsetting
my minimalist aesthetic principles. No HR.
Would I recommend it to anyone? Hmm, tough call. I'll
see how it goes after a few kms and whether I would want
to lose the integrated controls.
