I have a 4.8 cm infra renal aortic aneurysm. Next week I am seeing a
vascular Consultant. I understand that this surgeon does not use the
endovascular technique, which worries me somewhat for the following
resons
1 Because of some serious poisoning with Organo Phosphates a few years
back with considerable nerve damage I have been advised not to have a
general anaesthetic. I had a hernia done 2 years back under local
anaesthetic given by an anaesthetisit that was aware of the problems I
might have because of the OP's.That anaesthetist has now left the
hospital.
2 .I feel that stenting would be much much safer and far less
expensive. Is this so ?
3. Is stenting done under local anaesthetic ?
4. What are the criteria for deciding if a patient is suitable for
stenting?
5. Is stenting regarded as, for the want of a better expression, as
safe and reliable nowadays
Can anyone give me some advice on what to do or what to ask for, I am
getting rather worried
Ps All this is under the UK's National Health Service and I am not
sure what rights I have to ask for a stent should it be suitable for
me.
