  1. I am thinking about buying a bike with 36/50 FSA cranks with an 11/23 rear cluster. I currently ride a 42/53 with 11/21 cluster. How much difference will this size differnce make, is it worth swopping for different cranks, or can you get different size chainrings at no great cost?

Not knowing what kind of gear inches you need it's impossible to know if it's worth it. There are all kinds of ways to get lower gearing depending on what you have. You could put a 38 or 39 tooth ring on your crank, and current road cassettes go to 27 or 29 teeth. Again, not knowing what you have or what you are trying to do , makes it impossible to speculate....Your current low gear is 54 gear inches, and what you are considering is 42 gear inches. A 39 small ring by 27 large rear cog is 39 gi. Do you even need an 11 small cog?
