1989 RB-1. 55cm seat tube with a 56 cm top tube, (all measurements center to
center.)
I bought this from a friend who purchased it NOS in '92 or '92. He rode it
for part of a summer and then parked it behind his couch until I bought it
for my daughter two years ago. She was to use it at school, but found
walking and the bus to be more convenient. I'd bet she put less than 100
miles on it. I asked a mechanic buddy of mine to check out the bike when I
first bought it. After examining he declared the bike to be like brand new.
The frame is triple butted Ishiwata 4130. It is one paint job away from
being pristine. Numerous paint chips, a few scratches; the kind you get when
you lean a bike up against a signpost. Absolutely NO dents or dings. There
are a couple of spots of minor surface rust. Except for tires (which are
new.) and bar tape, the bike is all as it was the day it was sold.
Suntour GPX drive train and brakes, with GPX Accushift downtube shifters.
Mixed wheelset: Front 32 hole Wolber GTX rim laced to a Suntour GPX hub.
Rear 32 hole Araya CTL-370 rim, also laced to a Suntour GPX hub. Saddle is
an Avocet "Racing" model in white leather. I have the platform pedals and
toe clips that came with the bike; they would be included if the buyer
desired.
The RB-1 remains to this day, heralded for its great ride and relaxed,
comfortable geometry. With its long horizontal dropouts, this would make a
great fixed gear bike, with a new paint job you would have an exquisite
period piece, or you could just ride it the way it is.
I'm asking $400, which includes shipping within the CONUS. I'll also
entertain offers.
Oops, forgot to mention that the frame is painted white and black. Digital
