hello everyone. i am not a big poster here and mainly enjoy reading everyones threads and posts. the main reason i am posting this thread is in frustration of being bikeless and home computerless (still have work computer though 😉 ) at the moment and i know all of you would understand. now bare in mind that i am not bikeless due to any accident or illeagal incident but due to professional reasons. i am in the navy and currently stationed overseas in japan. i am in the process of transferring back to the US to the USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) homeported in sunny Mayport, Florida and that is currently where my bike is headed. i will be bikeless for at least another month but come christmas i should have my baby back in my hands.
the big thing is i feel so awful and fat right now not being able to ride. i really hate waking up in the morning and not being able to go on my morning training ride that refreshes me for the rest of the day. my diet is totally hosed up right now too but i will fix that when i get to florida. anyhow, i will jump down from my soapbox and go to bed now. i apoligize for the long thread too. the good thing is that i have already made contact with the wonderful people at the Florida Bike Association and know that i will be in good hands if i need anything once i get there. i would like to thank the FBA and everyone here at the Cyclingforums for giving me something to enjoy on a daily basis and for keeping my spirits up.
As a cyclist and a Navy vet, I know what you mean, and I am sympathetic. With that said, DON'T HOSE UP YOUR DIET! If you mess it up too bad, you will finally be reunited with your bike, but regret how you treated yourself in the meantime. Try and find substitutes for your riding. I still rode while out to sea on one of the ship's Lifecycles. Not the same as real riding, but as close as I could get. I also used to go to the base gym and use the machines there. I don't mean to be so preachy to you, but I am wishing you the best. Do what you can to keep your fitness, and you'll be back on the road soon. You can be a cyclist even if you don't have a bike. Keep the faith!
thanks for the info. i plan to try and get on an excercise bike once i get to florida, because rigth now i have no time to do anything. my wife and i have been trying to do our best to keep our fitness and diet in order.
