My "mountain bike" which I ride only onroad had a failure of the front rim. I have roughly 15,000 miles on the bike which I have owned for three years. It seems as if the front rim is made up of two pieces of "steel," and they came apart. As first I thought the brakes had worn through the rim, but this does not appear to be the case. I have ridden for over thirty years, and the only other similar rim failure was on a rear rim which appeared to crack. I carry a lot of groceries on the back, so I was not surprised, but for a front rim to fail that was surprising.
