  1. Hi,
I'm hoping one of you knowledgable sorts can help me with a frustrating recurring problem I've been having with the front derailleur. What happens is that once I've mounted the derailler and set it up, it works perfectly..... for a while, and then I can no longer shift into the big ring. Either the derailler itself is slipping(it's a shimano 105 band on type of the correct size) or the cable itself is slipping. I have tightened both as much as possible and the problem keeps recurring. So has anyone got any suggestions as to a possible solution?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Check your cable housing ends. If you see a tiny wire sticking out of one of your cable stops, that's it. If one of the cable housing ends starts to fail, the housing is gradually shortened and the shifting acts exactly as you describe. You can retune the derailleur and it works fine for a while, then stops shifting onto the big ring again.
