There is a military convention meets annually in Hawaii of western
countries. Of course the language of business is English. The French
delegation had a complaint maybe in jest "Why do we always have to speak
English - why don;t we do it in French this year?"
An American admiral stood up with a slow southern drawl "Maybe it's because
we Yanks, the Brits, Aussies and Canadians arranged it so that you don't
have to speak German!"
