  1. Hello,

I'm trying to get a freewheel off a mountain bike with no success. I've removed the main nut - had to use a vise since it was really stuck - and I expected the freewheel to just slide off. It doesn't and appears firmly attached to the wheel. Anyone have an idea of what I'm missing? Thanks

  2. FYI. Freewheels unscrew -- you need the appropriate Freewheel tool + a large crescent wrench or 'regular' size pipe wrench, or equivalent. Cassettes slide off after you unthread-and-remove the lockring -- the lockring is removed with the appropriate lockring tool & a small-to-medium crescent wrench, or equivalent.
