I've replacing a sun tour cassette with an shimano alivio 'equivalent'. only the spline pattern is slightly different. the hub is a quando job. the shimano cassette fits tightly but there it will fit on 2 ways, a hundered degrees apart or so. how do i know which way install it?
Also, on a seperate wheel, also with quando hub. This hub has threads for a screw on freewheel. i purchased a bxm freewheel to screw on it for an old single speed but the freewheel seems to wide for the hub and i can still see about 40% of the threads of the freewheel. is this usual or have i got the completely wrong hub/freewheel combo? I'm confused as the hub has about 1cm of thread but if a single bmx freewheel wont fit then what the hell will?
Okay, it seems i've installed a bmx freewheel on a standard mtb freewheel hub, NoNcE! i assumed they'd be identical where the freewheel went on. what are my options for SS. can i get a single freewheel to fit a freewheel mtb hub?

If you have 1cm of threads engaged, that's plenty; most fixed sprockets are 7mm or less and they stand up to big blokes heaving hard. You might have to tweak the chainline a bit, but you were going to have to do that anyway.

Thread-on freewheels and hubs are always the same thread (there's exceptions on very old bikes, but not in your case). I would remove the freewheel and closely examing the threads of the hub and freewheel to insure there's nothing screwed up.

I put an ACS freewheel on a 30-year-old Normandy hub for my single-speed. It works perfectly.

sorry, would you please clarify what you mean by most fixed sprockets are 7mm or less? what dimention is this, the width of the freewheel? there is a roughly 9/10mm engaged but another 5/6mm not, is this a particularly wide freewheel? thanks
