  1. Hello All:

I have a frame that was built to use SunTour Symmetric shifters so it
does not have traditional shifter bosses. These shifters mount with a
single bolt on top of the down tube.

Way back in the day, I had a frame that was similarly built and was able
to buy an adapter at a local bike shop that simply replaced the
symmetric unit (bolted straight to the top side of the down tube) and
had two normal shifter bosses. Sort of a T shape if you will.

I would like to find one of those so I could mount some cable stops and
use barcons. Yes, I know I could mount a clamp on cable stop but I would
    rather go this other route.

Anyone know the little replacement do-dad I'm describing? Any idea where
I can get one? Any other suggestions than a clamp on?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jim

don't know of a currently made ready-to-go adaptor, but i've found
that some basic old clamp-on downtube shifters have vestigial downtube
boss-esque things underneath the lever parts that work fine for
    mounting downtube cable stops on.

I've seen the adapter you want on Ebay, in the last year or so, after
another poster asked the same question. I think it is fairly rare, but
it's amazing what you can locate by 1) doing an ebay search with
carefully chosen keywords and 2) repeating it twice weekly for a month.

'Aero adapter' made by Gipiemme, wasn't very high volume then, rare now
hence pricey. Suntour top mount bosses use a finer than standard thread
so don't lose your bolt. A chromed double stop in 28.6mm is only $10.
