I was just trying out bikes and I came about this bike that I like. The only thing is that I don't have the 1-2" clearance when I stand between the top tube and my crotch. It seems more like 1/2". what do you think?

Bit of a tough one as it depends if you ever want kids if you have an accident. This link has a pretty good frame size calculator you migh want to look at

The minimum clearance is 1 inch to your pubic bone.
So, 1/2" clearance to your pants inseam is about the same thing.
That same bike in one size smaller, will ride just as nicely if you add a stem riser to increase the handlebar height.
