Just curious for an answer from the equipment pros... I was browsing thru the LBS and wandered over to a wall of high end road bike frames that were hung up on the wall...
I just got into road cycling recently and so things like road frames on a wall draw my interest 🙂
Anyhow, I choked back a gasp as I saw the prices on some of these frames!!! $3000, $4000, $5000!! and up! I was wondering wether this is an example of "one off custom" making the frames so expensive? or if there are actually measurable advantages to these astronomically priced framesets...
Is it the old case of diminishing returns? where the $1000 dollar frame is 50% the weight of the 500$ frame but the $2000 frame is 75% of the $1000 frame etc?

quite frankly 3K$-5K$ seems a little overdone to me. A good quality racing frame (reasonable weight, good stiffness & material properties, proven durability) should be obtainable for around 1000euros. Above this amount you'll probably be paying heaps for limited returns, such as 100-300grams of weight savings, fancy paintjobs, wannahave brands, or latest carbon technology
unless you really value these returns, I would limit my investments to about 1000-1200$.
