Four years later: U.S. MTB program improves Olympic position

Entering the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the U.S. was ranked 13th in the world in men's mountain biking and seventh in the women's standings, but after several mountain bike related initiatives were implemented by USA Cycling over the course of the last three years, the U.S.' nation's ranking for both men and women has improved considerably. Now, ten months away from the 2008 Games in Beijing, the U.S. is poised to send the maximum of two women to China, while a two-man team is also likely after the U.S. increased its ranking from 13th to sixth in the world. USA Cycling National Mountain Bike Development Director Matt Cramer sat down with the USA Cycling Communications Department to explain the qualification process, the U.S' efforts to qualify the maxiumum amount of athletes and some of the programs created by USA Cycling to bolster its international success.
