Hi all, I have just seen some forks on eBay which would be a great upgrade for my bike – however how can I be sure that they will fit my current bike? I have a Kona Cinder Cone currently with Marzzochi forks (not top of the range) with 100mm of play.
You just need to know your steerer tube length and diameter (headset size). Your bike probably has a 1 1/8" headset (older bikes had 1" headsets) so you just need to measure the length or your steerer and make sure that the fork you purchase has a steerer that's at least as long as your current fork. You can always cut-it down if it's longer. Fork travel has nothing to do with fitting your bike. The only thing that it might change is your headtube angle, which may have an effect how your bike handles. Unless you get a downhill fork with tons of travel, you probably won't even notice any difference.
