All I can say is I wish I got one years ago. Well maybe not all or this would be a pretty meaningless and short post :-)
I figured that as cycling is my primary mode of transport; i.e. 300km/w on bike and maybe 60/w by car, that a bit of coaching wouldn't hurt so I engaged the services of Caren at Start Line cycles. I've had two sessions so far, first one an assessment of my fitness which is above par apparently and the second focused on technique. Next Sunday I've got sprint training which she gleefully tells me will be hard...
Anyway I got a cycle computer. Armed with that and my new found knowledge on proper technique I smashed my morning commute time by four minutes this morning; 36 mins as opposed to 40 for a 19km commute. To say I'm chuffed is an understatement.
Now that I'm keeping a cadence of between 90-110 everything seems so much easier and my legs don't get as stiff after a ride either. I've no idea what my cadence was previously but having a cycling computer's made a huge difference to my riding. -- Cheers Euan

Good for you Euan but one question.......are you talking 36 min on the speedo or elapsed time of 36 min?? I assume that the 40min pre-speedo was total time for the ride but I am pretty sure that all modern speedos are automatic in that they stop timing when you stop for lights etc. I had a similar situation years ago (early nineties) when I changed from a speedo that you manually started and stopped the time to one that did it automatically.

36 mins on the speedo, the elapsed time was 39 mins, courtesy of HRM.
Best elapsed time I've managed to date is 45 mins, I was lucky with the lights today as well.
I've been using the computer for about three weeks now, the best I've done previously was 40 minutes. Most mornings I don't work to hard on the way in 'cause I'm still waking up. For some reason I decided to push it out this morning and mighty chuffed I did :-)
