I have lurked for months, and have read about replacing the chain when the old chain reaches 12 1/16". Now with a new chain it skips on the 12 tooth. This is on a shimano Deore 11-32 9 speed with a new dura ace chain and a new connex link. The cluster and chain rings and old dura ace chain and connex link have done around 6,000km with regular 2 week off bike chain cleaning using solvent. The old chain did not even reach the 1/16" mark. I will admit that the 12tooth was the most used cog, but.... how come. When looking at the 12 tooth - it doesn't look that bad. Nearly the full top of the flat of the cog is still there, just "slightly" wave shaped. When tension is applied to the chain you can see the chain creep up the cog slightly. No other cogs skip. So do I just replace the cluster and get on with life?

The fact is that even a new chain doesn't fit properly on a new 11-12T cog. Don't replace anything. Just put back the old chain and wear 'the living [censored]' out of that combo or replace just the 12T cog and put on a new chain.
