Flying to Toulouse

For some time I've been collecting information on user
experiences taking bikes on planes, trains, buses, boats,
etc. There's lots of stuff on rentals, folding bikes,
boxing, airlines, and railroads around the world and how to
ride in/out of about 120 airports.

Here's the entry for Toulouse: (not mine)

"We found that cycling into Toulouse airport was very
difficult. We came from Saint-Martin-de-Touche just south of
the airport and we would have missed our flight if I had not
scouted the area the night before. I strongly advise anyone
trying to cycle into the airport to get advice. This is how
we did it:

"1. Get yourself onto the minor road that follows the dual
carriageway to the north of the D902(A621). We came onto
this from the south. We had to walk north-west along this
road as it was one way (south east) from the airport
entrance towards the river.

"2. You come to a roundabout leading into the airport
complex that allows access to the chain hotels. I remember
going past the Formule-1 and the Campanile. Follow signs for
the Relais Blanhac Interhotel. Get off your bike and cross
the short stretch of grass in front of you and cross the
airport slip-road.

"If there was an official way in, I could not work it out.
Although I could see how you were supposed to get out- it
was signed. The tourist information in Toulouse does have
maps showing cycle routes in town. It does not, as far as I
remember, cover getting into the airport, but is useful in
any case as a detailed map of Toulouse.

"We found Toulouse very bad in general, for cyclists.

I flew home from that airport a few years ago. I don't
recall having an inordinate difficulty in finding it,
though I think we had to contend with a fair amount of
traffic en route. We spent our last night in the center
of Toulouse, so I can't help you on a hotel near the
airport. The Tarn gorge area is lovely. Easy riding in
the gorge, but there are worthwhile things to see above
the gorge, including the fabulous cave called l'Aven
Armand. You've got to ride up to a plain above the gorge
to get to the entrance. The Corniche des Cevennes between
Florac & Anduze is a beautiful route, though not easy.

If you find yourself in Anduze, There's a wonderful cave-
like Spanish/French restaurant there, up the hill a short
walk from central downtown. The food and wine were very good
and as a bonus we were treated to an incredible recreation
of Edith Piaf by a woman (maybe the owner or related to
them) and her stoic husband on the accordian. I mean, it was
really out of sight!
