Same here. I knew he'd been a mtb-er, but no idea he'd done those dreaded
24-hour races! (I've done 4 or 5 of them, usually 4-man but once 5-. It
takes some inner fortitude to leave a warm sleeping bag at 3 AM and go do a
10- to 20-mile lap in 25-degree wet weather! "Exquisite Pain" I used to
called it.)

Loved the wheelie-back-to-base at 3 am story. Classic!
