flight deck on a mountain bike

There is a compatibility chart on this page:

All the computer needs to determine virtual cadence is the wheel
diameter and what gears (rear cog and front chainring) you are in.
So, the Flight Deck needs to be able to determine the current gear
selection from the shifter (i.e. it has to be one of the models shown
in the chart I referenced). If I read the chart correctly, you
need to have the ST-751, or 750 Deore XT shifter.

After a little more searching, it may be that you have the M510
shifters, and these appear to be Flight Deck compatible. Be aware
that you will need to get the correct wiring harness to make it all
work - and that these cost about twice what the computer head costs ;-(
It's all there in the chart. You just need to determine what model
# shifters you have.

thanks for such a prompt reply. after further searching i have found that
they are m-510 shifters. i was interested because i thought i could swap the
head over between my road and mtn bike

Sure, you can use the FD head for up to four different bikes. So,
you should just need the wiring harness for the M510's and you should
be good to go ;-)
