Problem, my Deore f.mech on my Jamis Dakar is not working right. It is tuned right on, up and down. I spent a lot of time getting it right. The problem is that under torque in the small front ring the chain either skips, witha loud ping on the ring or drops off, rather shoots off, with a louder ping! The chain is then not jammed, but pulled tight across the top, so that I have to pull the r.mech to loosen the chain and remount. It only does this in the little ring, and works well every where else. The chain has no tight links, no chain suck and no obvious problems. Any ideas?

I can say that on my first ride out on my Dakar 1.0 I had exactly the same complaint. Especially up slow, technical uphills when going over a large rock. Once the power / torque is applied it sounds like I just ripped off a cog.
I wonder if it's because it's a full suspension bike with a single pivot between pedals and rear hub.
