I modified an old and damages Sigma Ellipsoidal halogen lamp to work from my SON. I had intended to fit a voltage reg and or standlight battery supply but didn't so I have a direct connection from the hub and a 3w bulb. On Saturday evening I fitted the lamp and my SON wheel into The Black Witch, as my fixed had beed nicknamed, and went for a night time fixed ride on a 12 mile route I used to use years ago. Theres a 1 mile unlit uphil section. To cut to the chase it was a great ride, the hills were not as hard as I remember, the downhill not as steep either, the 58" gear was Ok with some braking. The lamp was superb, a very large lighted patch about 10' in front of me illuminating all of my carriageway, much better that the same lamp with 2.4w bulb and batteries and a larger patch than a Lumotec. Now its time to think about wiring it in series with my Lumotec for The Winter Solstice.
Yesterday I did the Eureka 200, Excellent day, once I calmed down after doing 10km extra in trying to find the Eureka Cafe. Bloody roadworks put us on the wrong side of the road and we just rode right past it. The route sheet didn't give a distance what should have been obvious, wasn't. We were not the only ones to make this mistake. Anyway, 223km in 10h 15m, good enough for me. Good to see Tony B of this parish, he's looking good, lost a bit of weight I'd say.

That extra six miles up and down the same bit of carriageway twice, looking for that cafe was really annoying 'cos I was badly in need of a cup of tea at that point.
Yeah it was a great day, weather could not have been better for it. Looking forwards to the Winter Solstice ride too. I just hope I can get the winter bike with dyno-hub on the road, by then, and not have to worry about carrying spare batteries.
