I haven't noticed that Carrera takes advice on anything if it differs from what he is going to do anyway. Of course, his posts don't give the full picture so I may be totally wrong about this. He also takes on too much and the boat is moored a hard bike-ride away from where he lives, so it doesn't get as much attention as it needs.
Everyone is mad, it's simply a matter of degree.

Don't believe all that guff about climbing for hours on end. He lives in the West Midlands. And nobody pulls the wool over my eyes about bike riding, it's impossible. I'm going to do a little exercise as to where my old adversary Brian Rourkes shop is, and then find out where Swinnertons shop is.
That way I'll nail him down to an area.

Strangely enough, carrera seems to have stumbled across a forum where there are a few people who could help him out,and are willing to do so.If I were a novice as carrera obviously is,I would welcome every bit of well-meant advice. If carrera wants the advice of a professional shipwright and skipper, please PM me,I'm happy to help out if I can.
Interesting,a bit surprising, but gratifying that there are a few nautical types into bikes.Maybe I can get you all interested in wooden boats, which, along with bikes ,are the most energy-efficient machines we have invented yet.
But maybe fred's right and he's just mad.
    😄

I think you're right about him being lucky. You being a shipwright, and MP being very familiar with marine electrical and electronic systems, especially for the Ministry of Defence. Let's face it he's braindead. The control board starts smoking, and he doesn't have a look at the wiring behind it. He has a smashed instrument face, and hasn't seen where the wiring (or vacuum) system goes to. It could be a simple ammeter, or perhaps a fuel guage float connection. In any case he needs both. And he obviously is unaware that fibreglass 'corrodes'.
Still he gives us a laugh on his pseudo world political assessments, which are miles off the mark.

I reckon he lives in Stoke on Trent.

  4. One thing I do know is that engineer let me down. He didn't even phone to let me know he wasn't goingh to bother and I had to get up after having done a full night-shift. Instead, I got this [censored] and bull excuse about some job he was supposed to be doing.
I was going to pay the guy just for driving out to take a look at the engine but he can basically get stuffed. 🙁
I'm going to have to try and do the job myself. This is several times I've been let down over this boat and I'd never have bought it had I known workmen in this area are so unreliable.
I've been p****d off about it all day! 😠

  5. Here is a pic of where Carrera commonly climbs. Do you recognise the route? This is one of my favourite climbs and it's a swine to get over! 😄

  6. i've had the [censored] all day too, must be something going around in the water....

Believe me it was no joke. I suspect food poisoning too. I've never had anything as bad in my life for the time it lasted. It was a f*****g nightmare.

  7. I sympathise. What happened to me was horrendous. I had got myself back home from work, half-descending, half-pushing my bike all the way back and shaking. I got into bed and slept soundly for 3 hours. When I woke up, I felt cramps in my gut and waves of nausea. I felt this urgent need to get to the toilet and quick.
I never made it and I winded up in a right mess. I can only thank my lucky stars it didn't happen earlier on in the office at work as I imagine I'd have been unable to go back to my job.
The next day and night I spent continually stuck on the damned toilet. Even a drink of juice would send me off. I kept a bucket in my room for emergencies and trained myself to sprint for the bathroom in seconds flat.
After a full week, I'm now better. I'm taking Don's advice and will not be cycling again seriously till I've built myself up so I'll just be doing some weights in the gym this week.
Hey, Mountain Pro, get well soon! Let's just hope Fred C doesn't get a similar dose of the [censored].

I was looking at the piccy of your bike, and the headstock says to me that you are no taller than 5ft 4ins.
The other load of bull you posted not long ago that when you were a junior you squatted 600lbs. That's absolute bollocks because that was the World Record about that time.

Dunno 'bout FC but if I get a dose of Ghandi's revenge I'm not going to blog it.
And if your guts aren't completely settled down then don't try squatting 600.

It's a small frame, but the saddle's way up in relation to the bars. Could be medium height rider with [censored] aloft.

If that's the case, tell me how he says he is 'power rider' always on the big ring. That system doesn't work, and never has.

Got mine from an overripe tomato, lucky thing was my boots didn't leak.

  13. where is the pic of the bike?

    This thread post no. 45
Small frame, short head tube, short handlebar stem, high saddle:- extreme aero?

That makes perfect sense, considering Careera's propensity for challenging established wisdom.

yikes, i have to say that i never actually was emplyed by the MOD despite the way i worded it earlier. The company i worked for were contracted to work on MOD vessels.

Same thing. You have to get clearance, or rather your employers do.

First off, he squatted 600 cards and second, notice that the bike is pointing downhill... I'm sure he rides down the hill just to enjoy the aroma of swine.........

  19. When I was training in Russia we had a guy deep squat 1000 pounds. He wasn't particularly huge either. The guys would stand 2 each side of the bar and someone would video-record the squat.
A 600 pound squat is no big deal. Having said that there is no way I could do it now, especially in light of the fact I was diagnosed with a small inguinal hernia.

  20. Miguel Indurain and Ullrich favour big gears. You'll see Ullrich on the big chain ring climbing when everybody else is on the small ring.
However, when I ride on steep country lanes off the main roads I drop to the small ring as I have no choice. Some of the huge hills I do on my very smallest gear.
On main roads I'm always on the big chain ring.
