  1. Hi,

I have a Giant SCR2 which I will be doing club time trials on next year. At the moment it has Alex DA22 rims on it, I am thinking of upgrading the wheels as these seem to be very basic wheels for touring rather than racing/time trialing.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what wheels I should be looking at to buy? I am hoping to spend up to £200 max and I will be using them just for the time trials. Will I notice a difference in my times by just upgrading by £200 or is it better to stick with the AlexRims DA22 wheels for the moment?
Can I get anything carbon/disc for this price...I'm thinking probably not?!

    Thanks,

    Ally

Have you just started racing> If so, you may not see a huge difference, it depends on how fast you will be going. For 200 pounds, I would say maybe try e-bay; you might luck out and find something nice in your price range. For 200 pounds, maybe build up something with a deeper profile than those Alex rims: DT swiss 1.2 are 30 mm tall, likewise, the velocity deep v rims are also about 30 mm. Built up on decent hubs, you should be able to get it within budget. Maybe even some aero spokes (but be aware that truing them may be a bit of a bugger sometimes if the spokes twist). If you want something pre-built, maybe try the Mavic Cosmic Elites - they are pretty sturdy, have a decent profile (31 mm rim), and have 20 bladed spokes front and rear. Parker International

also has Campag Scirroco, Vento and Fulcrum Racing 5s, which are all nice wheels as well. They all did fairly well in aero tests on www.bikephysics.com : not as good as all-out aero wheelsets, of course, but about the best you will get at that price range.
FWIW, I use the Cosmic Elites for TTs, and they have served me well.
