  1. Hello Everyone,

This weekend while I am recovering from back problems, I built my
    first pair of wheels.

I almost gave up after the first 2 hours after I had some difficulties
putting the spokes into the hub.
With disc brake hubs, one flange is larger than other and I found I
had to fit the smaller flange first - but too late!

Initial threading is quite time consuming but truing is fun!

I am not sure they are perfect yet. It has "lateral trueness" but
    slight radial problem.
Unfortunately I didn't choose the rims myself since I purchased them
    online.
It is difficult to get rid of the small radial wobble. I wonder if I
will notice it when I ride?

Anyway so far I am quite satisfied. It has been fun!

    bye

No, not at all, especially if you're building with new rims. You
didn't say how you're truing them, whether you're using a stand or
not, but it's a good idea to get into the habit of not only checking
both radial and lateral independently, but also together. Sometimes
you can kill two birds with one stone by adjusting the right spokes.
Spoke tension is your friend here too - just a light tap with a
metalic object on the spokes to check if you've got equal tension
across the wheel. You can use a tensionmeter, but I can't be bothered
to 'go there', and it's not really needed.

In terms of elliminating radial 'bumps' you'll often find that all is
need is tightening a set of 2/4/6 [or whatever] spokes, always in
pairs, one on each side of the rim, drawing the rim closer to the hub.
Conversely, if you have 'flat' spots [where a part of the rim is
closer to the hub] you'll need to slacken 2/4/6 [or whatever is
    needed].

I did a one day wheel building course. I could never have built wheels
from 'that' book, just can't get my head round that kind of writing. I
    found a good teacher invaluable.

Thing is, once you understand the concept of what you're doing,
practice will give you better results as time goes on.
