I am hoping you can provide some advice. I am an extremely fit, athletic person just getting into biking and after riding a friend's bike for several weeks have decided to purchase. I'm a tall woman (5'10"😉 and need to be careful with my lower back at times. I went to several shops in NYC and was introduced to a limited range of models. Fear that I should not be deciding between these but should be broadening my search. Any tips / advice are most welcome.
As a newby, I would like to get a quality bike that I can modify for years. Decided against the $600 range and looked at upper-end alum frames and entry level carbon.
Store 1:
Tried the Roubaix Elite (decided it was too comfy)
Tried a 2009 Tarmac Elite (on sale) and liked the speed of it. But have read very mixed reviews online.
Store 2:
Initially had me try some softer rides, but I liked the faster bikes.
Tried the CAAD9 4D, which I liked a lot but it is $150 more than the Tarmac Elite and for alum frame. I liked it but the reviews are so cultish it's hard to tell...
(I didn't try the CAAD9 5C, which is $150 LESS than the Tarmac Elite and might be an option.)
Also tried the 2009 Six Carbon 5C (same price as the CAAD9 4D)
Should I got to other shops and try and broader range of models? Or do you have thoughts on the above options.
First timer, looking to ride long distances and occasionally in the city.
Thank you thank you,
Kate
