First time big buy, are there any problems still with softride bikes ?

Hy , tri´s out there,

looking forward for my first IM

i´m gonna buy maybe a used but well-fitting softride -bike

and i heard that for some races its not allowed to use them

(except ironman, as much as i know), but what is with shorter distances ??
