I plan to buy my first road bike having rediscovered the joy of cycling on a Trek FX 7.2 for the last 2 years I'm a 5 foot 2 inch tall female and I don't want to spend more that £1k. There is too much choice and I don't undertsand half of the terms in the spec ! (why is it so jargonised with no simple explanations !!).
I've loved my Trek so I'm a bit biased towards Trek , altho I've heard good things about Specialized as well. I know that an aluminium frame and a carbon fork is going to be pretty std at this price band but thats about it. I ride on days off about 25-30 mile trips and commute occasionally as well as the odd event like London to Brighton
Any help / advice would be very welcome. I'm sure there's lots of women like me waiting to take their first road bike plunge and have scoured magazines/ forums for a simple article giving such advice with simple terms but to no avail !
Both Trek and Specialized offer fine road bikes in your price range. Visit a shop or two and try some test rides. Don't overlook Giant, Cannondale, Felt, Scott, and Bianchi, either.
At 5'2" I see you riding something like a 48 cm frame.
