1. Cycling is very new to me and so are my routes. Thought I would quickly share the story of my first ride into work today. One way the trip is just shy of 15 miles and about 29.5 round trip. My thought was, "hey I could easily do this if I had a hybrid or road bike." Completely underestimated how far 15 miles really is especially pedaling. Then I thought since there is no sign posted I could ride through the tunnel, which turns out that bikes aren't allow in the tunnel, which didn't work well because it kicked my butt riding uphill. I was going so slow that the tunnel security stopped traffic both ways and escorted me out of the tunnel. Then I had to climb a high rise bridge only to be forced to exit early, there was a sign, and did not know where this road was going to take me. Now let me just say, before I get bashed from everyone on this board, that I am a beginner cycler and can not afford a very high end bike right now but I am very thankful that the bike I do have held up very nicely and did an excellent job.

  2. Juga, we all had to learn things when we started cycling....so, don't worry about that.

The important thing is that you made the trip and it will only get better as your experience and fitness level impoves.

    Good for you!

  3. No body is going to bash you here. None of us were born as professional cyclists and I am sure that all of us have stories from when we were beginners. I hate tunnels. If you ride into them, there is no place to go to avoid traffic until you come out the other end. The same goes for most bridges.

  4. I really appreciate both of your comments. I shared the story because I thought it was kind of funny. I enjoy cycling a lot so far so much that a coworker and I are planning a 50 mile ride soon.
