  1. First day back in the saddle after far too long a vacation (since last winter). Anyways, I went out and put down 20 miles and had more left but ran out of time. I averaged 16.1mph (no metrics from me!). Long story short, the reason I'm posting is because this was my first long ride with an HRM.

It took me a good 6-7 miles to learn how to control my output to match my heart rate, but after I did my distance became SO much easier. I wanted to ask what % of my max HRM should I be gunning for? I was running out of time so I did my last two miles at full out sprint trying to peg my max HRM (I know it's not official) and hit 188.

Also, what kind of training regimine should I go for? I was planning on 15 miles, 3 times a week and increasing by two or three miles per week with one Sunday a month with a 30+ mile ride. I'd love input on the best way to get back into shape. Thanks!

  2. Also, how do you guys keep yourselves from going faster than your pace speed?

My training problem was that, without a pack to pace with, I would take off riding how I felt and get up to 165+BPM and obviously not lasting very long.

Actually, that's my main use for the HRM - keep from going too hard on 'easy' days.
