"McLane Pacific back on" -- "The McLane Pacific Cycling Classic has
become the MERCO Credit Union Cycling Classic, presented by McLane
Pacific. After being announced as cancelled last week, the local
newspaper in Merced ran an article that enraged local business owners
and community personalities with the thought of not having the popular
    event in 2007."

Local business owners and community personalities were enraged! That
race is doing something right. Props to them.

Wow, that is great news and I hope trend starting. I have friends who live
on the course and it has been the social highlight of their year to host a
    party on race day.

This is good news for my old hometown, and years past included many stars,
even Jeannie Longo, and last year was good temps, clear skies in the mist of
a bad rainy season. The crowds were good with outdoor barbecuing and a
festive atmosphere. Amber Rais crashed right in front of diners on the
S-curve, but nothing serious, not even road rash, so all things considered,
it was fun in perfect weather.

Did cn have it right in writing that the U$AC wouldn't permit the race
because the promoters didn't meet the new requirement for sponsorship
    $$$$?

As I understand it, they would give a permit to the race, but would
not put it on the National Racing Calendar without meeting new, higher
sponsorship levels. And w/o being on that calendar, fewer top teams
    would show up.
