I've been looking for about a year for some sunglasses which would work for me for cycling without
spending a fortune, and I finaly found them. I have a big head, and need big wraparound sunglasses
to wear when I've got my contacts on, because the smaller wraparounds ones sit so close to my eyes
that my eyelashes hit them, which is *really* distracting, and they get sweat on them when it's warm
out. The non-wraparounds don't block enough wind, and my contacts dry out in a flash.
At the LBS where I bought my bike last fall, they recently had a pair of Uvex Pro Sport II
sunglasses on display. They have significantly larger frames and lenses than most of the ones I've
seen, and come with three sets of lenses of different colors (gray, amber and clear). They were $50,
which is more than I really wanted to pay (I was hoping for about $30), but having looked that long,
I decided to splurge.
Today I used them for the first time (I usually ride with my regular glasses, but had my contacts in
today for other reasons), and they worked great. No wind across my contacts. It was cool (38°F) and
dry, so if there was any wind across my eyes, I would have felt it right away, but they were great
for the hour and 20 minutes I was out, at speeds running mostly 18 to 22 mph, with one nice hill at
35. They probably wouldn't look great on someone with a smaller head, but on me they are about
right. I'm not one to worry a whole lot about looks (my wife complains constantly about my fashion
sense), but if I have a choice of things which both work well functionally, I'll take the one which
looks better over the one which doesn't as long as it doesn't cost any more, and these definitely
filled the bill.
