  1. I hadn't seen this mentioned here, so I thought I'd provide it as a
    cautionary tale. A few days ago in Loveland, Colorado, a prominent local
    neurologist and political candidate, in his earlly 50s, was killed on his
    bike while competing in a triathlon. He and a car were both approaching an
    intersection, crosswise. The policeman monitoring the intersection for
    traffic waved the car through, apparently misjudging the relative speeds and
    thinking the car would clear before the bike arrived.

    I guess the moral of the story is, even in a cop-monitored intersection, you
    still need to pay attention to traffic.
