Hi,Just wondering if anybody out there can solve my tech problem or offer any advice.
I have a mountain bike fitted with a Sachs single cylinder 2 stroke motor. It's given me pretty good service over the years but I can't get the motor to start after having washed the bike yesterday. It's had plenty of washes over the years and I've never experienced this problem before.
First thought, wet ignition. But not the problem as I'm getting a strong spark at the spark plug. Therefore, must be petrol. I took the carby off, took it apart and blew it out with compressed air. Reinstalled everything and tried to start it again. Again no luck. Thought it might be water in the fuel. Took plug out, kicked over motor to clear any possible water in cylinder then tried putting a little fuel directly in plug hole, screwed plug back in and tried kicking it over again. Once again no luck. Absolutely no sign of kicking. I'm at a loss. I've run out of ideas.
If anyone can offer a satisfactory solution I'd be most appreciative. Don't really want to scrap the bike yet! Thanks

You may have more luck at a 2 stroke motorbike forum. This is more human powered oriented but you may get a helpful response.

Just because you can see spark at the plug don't mean theres good spark, you are however following some good steps. next thing i would do is get the coil checked it may be rooted and not providing enough voltage, second thing ensure that the engine is grounded back to the coil- remember that the current has to run through the block and gets back through a small grounding wire. also the spark has to be timed somehow, im not familiar with that engine so not sure what system it has but definitly check the timeing. the cable between coil and spark plug could also be bung- they have carbon inner wire and it brakes down if water gets in. check that there is fuel getting in- take the air filter off and get someone to look down the carby throte while you kick it over . they should see a fine white cloud of fuel vapour. is there any compression- if youve had the bike for a while then youll know by how hard it is to kick over- bieing a two stroke, if the rings are totally gone then fuel wont even make it to the combustion chamber.
start with the electrics, its most likely water got in somewhere.I'll stop boring you now, because i could write a book about this. Feel free to ask more question if need be, CYA
