The editor of the Mail on Sunday rang me today to discuss the fake letter
published last Sunday under my name. He was most helpful and had access to
the electoral register so he could confirm that I was the genuine Simon
Mason. He also faxed me a copy of the fake letter shown here:

The blue text is my handwriting and as you can see, I print
and don't use joined up letters. He checked the address used
(nr 92) which was false and also the postcode is not a valid
one, although the phone number is. It is my old one from 4
years ago presumably gleaned from an old telephone
directory. Now I have a copy of this person's writing, I
have set the following letter to the Hull Daily Mail.
Any handwriting experts who can get a personality profile
from the text?
Dear Sir or Madam,
You might be aware of the recent spate of anti cycling
letters that have been published in the HDM under my name as
well as Mr Howard Peel and Peter Minns. In each case the
person behind this has used not only false names, but also
false addresses.
In my case I was allegedly living in "Bloomfield Road" - I
left Bloomfield
Avenue in 2000. Peter Minns was down as living in Tranby
Lane, Anlaby and
Howard Peel's address was Pickering Road, an address he left
12 years ago!
I enclose a printout from your letter archives highlighting
a series of letters by a "P. Scott" of Tranby Lane, Anlaby
which is another fake name as no such person lives there
according to the electoral register. The profile of this
person fits exactly with the person hijacking our names. It
is a one-track message, clamp down on cyclists with no
lights etc.
This person has now gone national. In last Sunday's (4 JUL
04) Mail on Sunday the enclosed letter was published.
Again, my name was used along with a false address and non-
existent postcode. The phone number however is valid,
except it is of my previous address in Bloomfield Avenue
and no doubt obtained from an old phone directory.
Is there any chance of matching up the hand writing with
any of the letters in your archive to see who is behind
these letters?
