"Tecnazene is a fungicide and potato sprout suppressant
widely used on stored potatoes. However, due to insufficient
data to perform an adequate risk assessment, use of all pesticides
containing tecnazene was revoked on 31 January 2000."
"This decision by Ministers follows a request for further data
by the Advisory Committee on Pesticides in 1995. A period
of 3 years was allowed for the relevant residue stability,
animal metabolism and environmental fate and behaviour data
to be produced. At the end of this period inadequate data was
submitted to the independent Advisory Committee on Pesticides
and therefore the risk assessment for tecnazene could not be
completed. As a result approval for all products containing
tecnazene has been revoked and a period up to 31 January
2002 has been allowed for disposal of existing stocks in the
supply chain."
