My out-of-town friend gave me a pair of Shimano PD-M545 pedals,
telling me that one of them needed to have some new internals of some
sort; he said it would be pretty cheap. But there is a problem first
-- getting out the guts.
I have the circular plastic tool that unscrews it, so i can get the
good pedal right out, for regreasing. But the bad one appears to be
threaded. after extracting about 5mm or 6mm, it just spins around
around without further movement.
My friend suggesting that if i apply some heat to it somehow ('heat
gun'? bake in an oven?) then it might come out. I'm not sure why,
perhaps the heat will expand the threads which might help? But then i
think there are plastic bits that would melt?
What do you think, what can be done to get this out? Go to an
enginnering-mechanics shop, is there some heavy-duty magic they can
apply? Or can i buy just one replacement pedal?
