I use gym style exercise bikes extensively in the winter. Last winter was really long and the snow didn't melt till well into May so I spent nearly 7 months riding indoor bikes with my time split between a home trainer and exercise bikes at the gym.
They work really well and the newer models allow you to program efforts directly in watts which is a real plus for folks training with power meters. You definitely need a plan with some goals. Mindless spinning on those things with no real direction is really tough. But if you have some planned workouts like 2x20 minute efforts or a solid hour at Tempo pace then it's a lot easier to get on, do your workout, cooldown and go home. Without a training plan and some goals related to power levels and time there's no way I could have stuck out the long winter on indoor trainers.
Good luck,
-Dave
Now that i hve got my Exercise Bike i would like some more advice on how to make the most of it
Is it best to do one long stint of training on it per day or do several short stints per day
Any advice on the subject of traning on exercise bikes please ...... Thank You
A 3x20 is a good place to start that would make the "stints" twenty minutes long with 5 minute breaks. Have you read the first pages of the "it's killing me but..." thread yet?

Hi there Top Dog.
Read my last post in "In Honour Of RapDaddyo" where RD lays it all out for you. Good luck! 🙂 Tyson
