Excessive Chain Suck

If you are having chain suck then replacing just the chain is unlikely to help.

If you are lubing well enough that the suck is not caused by the chain 'sticking' to the rings, then the suck is probably caused because your chain rings have been worn badly by the previously stretched chain.

Replace your chain rings (and possibly even your cassette - depending on wear) and your problem will go away.

I'd try changing the cassette. I've had similar problems in the past and this has been the cure. Basically what is happening is your cassette wears to the grinding of your (stretched) chain. If you just change your chain, the cassette may have worn so much that it no longer "fits".

If you change your chain frequently then you may get 2 or 3 chains per cassette. If you flog every last ounce of life out of your chain then you may need to change your cassette every time you change your chain.

Same thing happens on the chainrings but there are more teeth here so the grinding down takes longer. In my experience, chainrings last a lot longer.

I had a lovely brand new Kona Roast that suffered from hideous chain suck the minute I went near any mud - I ended up fitting an anti chain suck device that cured everything immediately. Basically a plate that clamps under the bottom bracket that knocks the chain back to where it should be as it rides up on the chain ring. Saves your paint work, and you hardly notice its doing its job.
