  1. I was curious if folks change their training mix as the number of years of Ironman training build? I
have done 3 IM races one each for the past 3 years. I feel that my aerobic base has increased each
and every year. As a 46 year old MOP athlete I wonder if should continue to try to increase my
training volume each year? Should I sacrifice some volume for intensity? The books I've read discuss
a one year plan but don't really go beyond that.

    Thanks for any input,

    Steve W.

  3. Hi Steve,

I'm in year two of IM training, IM WI is a few weeks away. I'm also a MOP, 39 yo.

Yes, I've changed my training mix, and will do so in the future. I don't plan to increase
training volume significantly, because I don't have the time. I'm going to work more on
    technique/skill and strength.

This year I increased volume slightly for running, since it was my weakest event. I also worked more
on swim technique, less yardage. The bike is the bike, I hit hills a little harder this year.

For next year, I'm going to work on the bike, more so on power.

If I had the time, I'd consider increasing volume. But now that I have a pretty good base, I figure
I will get more improvement with better technique and strength.
