  1. Looks like I'm going to finally bite the bullet & get the GPS (if only so I
can join in most of the conversation in this group). I *think* I've got it
down to either the Venture or the Geko 201.

Any advice based on experience of either? In particular, the venture seems
genreally better apart from only having 2048 trackpoints compared to the
10k for the geko. Is this a real problem or is 2048 enough. It will be
primarily be used for 1-3 day outings, though maybe with the odd longer
    trip.

Also, are there any new products due out in the coming months that might be
    worth considering?

    Thanks
    Darren

I've got the Venture .. purely because it had a bigger screen, and came
with the ludicrously expensive cable. Add tracklogs software/data (I
wanted 1:25k data for a 'non-national park' area) and you have a neat
tool. Note that it works like cr&p under wet trees though (ditto the
    geko).

2048 trackpoints isn't a huge problem, since you can save logs as well.
You can read the user manual at the garmin website (ditto the geko).

    No! No! NO!

The Vista has 10,000 track points, if you need that many. You will need
more than 2048, even in a day.
