Return of the Stone Crank Tools! Yep, they showed up again on our recent ride of the 42nd Traverse track. My pesky 29er's cottered cranks kept coming loose, and I wasn't packing a hammer, so out came the stone age crank tools. These were inferior to the Snoqualmie stone age crank tools I had the pleasure of using at UNICON XI - they kept breaking under impact! I went through at least 3 or 4 hammers... Later on I overtighened and broke off the left cotterpin. The crank promptly fell off with 14km of track to go. It was a long walk out to the car. Never again will I ride cottered cranks!
It looks like you have some inferior form of igneous rock there instead of our good Pacific Northwest granite. Kris Holm would know better than me, though.
