Just before i left the UK to spend my retirement in France i had my bike stolen it was about 20 years old but in first class nick and was fitted to my small but perfectly proportioned body so never mind i thought i can buy one in France cycling is a religion there not a sport, lack of choice total indiference by sales staff and prices you wouldnt believe
I was offered a Esclassan bike re Jacques Esclassan who won green jersey tour de France 1976 very good condition Shimano 600 brakes gears hubs Mavic wheels for tubular tyres £60 but no one knows anything about these bikes considering the guy was born 15 min down the road from where i live now, anyone on here shed a bit of light on it please

No clue about the bike. Does Jacques still live in that area?
I do remember that he rode a Peugeot PY-10 and I managed to score an early PY-10 out of Canada that was very similar to his factory bike.
Can you post some close-ups of the frame? Does it resemble the mid-to-late '70's Peugeots?

IIRC mine was a 47-52 x 14-19. It took some young legs to muscle that around the hills!

This is the bike, bit of a pain fitting tubular tyres thought they had gone out of fashion years ago but appear to be going strong at certain bike outlets -

Fits good not quite as good as my old bike but then that was fitted exact where this is off the shelf so to speak bit cooler today so may give it a squirt down the road at 36 degs it gets a bit warm have just fitted a pair of tubs the roads are a bit gritty here if punctures come to often give them up and go back to mending tubes
