The problem with nearly all such seats is that they don't take into account
the fact that your hips rock slightly up-and-down while pedaling, so the
extra width of the "ergo" saddles (like the one shown, or, worse yet, the
ones with two independent pads) can cause a great deal of discomfort for
anyone riding more than, say, 10 miles.

Believe me, the industry is always looking for a more comfortable saddle.
There's no conspiracy going on that says all bicycle seats have to look (and
feel) like conventional ones. If a bike manufacturer could spec a
more-comfortable saddle, their bikes would sell better because they'd
test-ride better. But so far, all we've seen are weird-looking seats that
sell primarily through mail-order (and in-flight magazine ads) because, when
people actually use them (which happens when a shop stocks them), they don't
like them.
