  1. I recently saw a recipe that mimics the Olive Garden spaghetti sauce recipe.
But one of the ingredients is "env. onion soup mix".

What's "env."? Is it a brand name? Can I find this in Southern California?
If not, what's the best substitute?

    Thanks in advance,
    Larry

I think it means, "an envelope of onion soup mix." That's how that
dried, salted, thoroughly weird product is packaged. (I'm not saying I
have never used it, but think about it: onion *soup*, dried.) -aem

Thanks. 🙂 Makes perfect sense. I even looked it up to no avail. One day
I'll get the ol' common sense part of the brain working. <g>

Envelope. Lipton's Onion Soup Mix for Recipes. Substitute 2 tsp beef
bouillon base and 1 tbsp dried toasted onion flakes.

I think the recipe's author just abbreviated the word "envelope" so just
use one envelope of Lipton onion soup mix.
