During the week, I spin for 45 min's to an hour everyother night. off nights I lift weights. When spinning the first 15 min smaller chainring, next 15 middle chainring, last 15 min to 30 min's I go to the large chainring. I maintain a pretty high cadence. I eat pretty healthy, do not eat fast food or drink sodas. I drink alot of water and energy drinks. I have a race coming up and I am having an energy issue. I am finding that I have lately been feeling very sluggish. I am 40 and also take vitamins.. I am trying to find something to help me with the engery issue.

I don't know what your fitness level is, so it's hard to say. On the ride you described I would feel better as the ride went on, not worse. So I wonder what your endurance base is. Maybe you're going too hard and going anerobic. You can buy Polar pulse monitors for less than $40 now. Get one and learn what your anerobic threshold is and read up on training based on your pulse rate. But you might want to have a doctor's checkup to make sure you're not anemic or anything.

Thanks for the reply... I use a heart rate monitor now. I find my heart rate doing well. It's really comes down to just finding the energy to get biking and continuing my ride. I drink a energy drink while riding, along with a cliff bar and even before that I usally drink a smoothie. I just had my sugar checked and it was 90... Doctor thought that it was good. I often wounder it I am borderline with high blood pressure, could that impact me?????

are you running out of stream in the middle of a long ride? you MAY need to eat things that are lower on the glycemic index.maybe you need look no further than your diet.mix some friendly fats with your pre-ride meal,MCTs,or natural foods such as wheat bread, chicken breast, olive oil, tuna fish, flaxseeds, your body uses up sugar and you run out fuel
