With just about every weekend taken up with racing, and midweek consisting of intervals, threshold, tempo, bunch rides etc, what is the view on keeping up a long endurance ride throughout the race season?
There seems to be a so many opinions on keeping the long ride (low intensity) all the way through the season. For those who do try to keep in steady miles through the season, how do you do it, working round the rest of the training? Would you fit this in midweek, or if you are racing every weekend (especially on a Sunday) then the weekend is ruled out.
Is it necessary to have a long steady ride, with the racing and other training? Personally, I always have a very easy recovery ride for about an hour on a Monday, really easy gears (39x19 or so) but try to ride home after some races which are quite close to home (few hours ride back), and keeping the gears small. I know some mates who do 2hours easy spinning before midweek events, do the event and have the easy spin back.
What’s everyones thought on that?
