  1. What's the best newsgroup to post questions regarding elliptical trainers?
I'm researching them to make a purchase decision. The decision is not
whether to buy one; it's which to buy.

Right here, we're geniusess! Actually we bought one 2 years ago, and I did a
    lot of research.
The best for the money (you didn't say how much you were spending) is the
NordicTrack 910 eliptical trainer for about $800, much less if you search. We
bought ours as a returned model that had been repaired, for about $600, and
it's a great machine. The electronics vary by models, but the basic frame and
hardware is the same. I've heard they HAD a problem at one time with breakage,
but ours gets as much as two hours a day of straight useage, and we've had no
problems at all. It truly is a good machine, we highly recommend it.

Consumer Reports did a series on exercise equipment, including
elliptical machines, in March 2002. They tested 4 models of
elliptical machines. They recommended the Reebok model 6808.

I rarely spend much more than a hundred bucks without first
checking what CR recommends. Some of their recommendations are
lame. But they usually do pretty good. I can't evaluate their
    elliptical-machine recommendations, because I don't use them.

If you want, you can subscribe at http://www.consumerreports.org
(I do not work for them, or have any business relationship with
them other than as a long-time satisfied subscriber.)
